Ready Trucking - Ellenwood Georgia

Ready Trucking experienced a significant reduction in tire wire when running T-RAC.

No tire wear and few service calls

After one year of operating a fleet of trailers with the T-RAC, Ready Trucking in Ellenwood, Ga., experienced a significant reduction in tire wear compared to trailers running without the device. Ready, which hauls general freight throughout the Eastern United States, purchased 100 new trailers equipped with the T-RAC system in 2005, and in 2006 the company plans to purchase 120 new trailers equipped with the device. Ready is also discussing the options of retrofitting older trailers in its 550-trailer fleet with the T-RAC systems.

New trailer tires have 12 to 14 32nds of an inch of rubber tread depth. On average, Ready tires that ran with the T-RAC for one entire year experienced no change in rubber tread depth. "We did not lose a single 32nds on the tires that ran with the device," said Danny Clay, Ready Trucking Shop manager. The tire footprint, or rolling pattern of a tire, also remained constant after one year of running with the T-RAC system. A trailer tire without the system would show an irregular footprint, but Ready's year-old tires with the T-RAC had no irregular shaping or wear.

Ready has saved thousands of dollars on tires alone in the one year it's operated the T-RAC on its trailer fleet. Also, it has saved an unknown dollar amount by not having to pay service call fees and driver down time for trucks with flat tires on long hauls. "Trying a new system, you're always weary, but we've been very impressed with what we've seen so far," Clay said. "In the year's time we've had the T-RAC, it has already paid for itself."
